Rijksmuseum Amsterdam
Situated at the head of Museum-square (Museumplein), this museum houses all types of art objects, from paintings to dollhouses. The museum is not our personal favorite, but it certainly is a 'must see' for visitors of Amsterdam.
All elementary schools in the country do a regular visit to this museum to have the kids see the world famous Nightwatch or Nachtwacht at least once in their lives. Probably due to schooltrips we don't really consider this to be our favorite.
While the restoration of the main building is underway, the Rijksmuseum is displaying the crème de la crème of its permanent collection in the newly furnished Philips Wing. 'Rijksmuseum, The Masterpieces' offers the unique opportunity to view all the highlights of the Golden Age in one place.
Collection Rijksmuseum Amsterdam
With close on one million objects and Amsterdam's Rijksmuseum is the largest museum of art and history in the Netherlands. It is perhaps best known for its collection of 17th-century Dutch masters, with twenty Rembrandts and many other highlights of the period, including works by Vermeer, Frans Hals and Jan Steen.
You can visit the Rijksmuseum website prior to you visit to Amsterdam.
