Stadion-neighborhood

The Stadion neighborhood, or Stadium neighborhood, is mainly interesting to visit for the historical value of the Olympic Stadium which is still functioning as a stadium. The stadium was built for the 1928 olympiade in Amsterdam and was designed by Jan Wils. The stadium is open for visitors and has a wonderful audio-tour ("Stadionplein FM").

After the olypic games of 1928 the stadium was reused for soccer (of football) by the Amsterdam club Ajax and for both national and internation athletics games. In 1954 this stadium was the location chosen as the starting point of the world renowned Tour de France.
